Tamayose Hidemi was born on July 14, 1949 (Showa 24), on Ikema Jima, Miyako. After moving to Okinawa at age sixteen and graduating from the University of Okinawa, he began a career in education. Today, he resides in southern Okinawa with his family, balancing his professional life as a teacher with his profound dedication to the martial arts.
His formal journey began in 1967 under Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu Master Shima Masao. In 1975, he transitioned to Kobayashi Shorin-ryu under Nakamura Seiyu Sensei, who introduced him to Ryukyu Kobudo weapons. By 1982, Tamayose began studying directly under the legendary Akamine Eisuke Sensei at the Hozon Shinko Kai Hombu Dojo.
Recognized for his technical mastery, he was ranked 7th Dan by Akamine Sensei and eventually reached 8th Dan through the Okinawa Ken Karate Do Rengo Kai. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Hozon Shinko Kai until Akamine Sensei's passing in 1999.
Tamayose Sensei is a tireless advocate for the preservation of correct Ryukyu Kobudo. Since 1995, he has conducted seminars across Canada, the United States, Australia, Europe, and Britain. He is widely respected for his ability to teach the complex syllabus of history, 23 kata, kihon, and kumite with both perfect form and immense power.
Despite his international acclaim, Tamayose remains a humble and shy instructor, qualities that have endeared him to students worldwide. He also dedicates his time to the community as the president of the Okinawan Children's Development Association (Kodomo Kai).
